A-VSB Initiative Demonstrates the First end-to-end ATSC-Compatible Mobile Broadcast TV Platform. Read more...

A-VSB The future of local TV is here.

In today’s increasingly mobile and converged world, the A-VSB Initiative offers a dramatic enhancement to the American digital TV transmission system. Soon, you will enjoy DTV everywhere you happen to be: in your car, in your backyard, on the move.

A-VSB can be transmitted over current TV frequencies without harming reception of today’s existing televisions. Quickly deploying its functionality nationally requires only a minor upgrade to current transmitters and no new frequencies. The A-VSB platform utilizes the open OMA BCAST standard, which offers compatibility and interoperability at the service layer, while supporting the creation and delivery of value-add services (i.e. premium content and interactivity).

  • A brief history of A-VSB:
    • Samsung first publicly introduced A-VSB in
    April 2006.
    • The first silicon chip was fabricated in
    December 2006.
    • The first public demonstration of mobile TV
using broadcast frequencies was January 2007.
    • Commercial deployment of A-VSB is planned for 2009.
    • First public end-to-end solution demonstration April 2008.

A-VSB brings new revenue opportunities for broadcasters through the mobile delivery of local TV, as well as premium TV content, value-added advertising and interactive services.

Local broadcasters can now “Take Local TV Mobile” with their existing spectrum and modest facilities upgrades.
